Monkeypox Virus is a public health emergency of international significance, according to the WHO, and it has severely damaged the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and an increasing number of other African countries. This is the second time that the virus has been given this classification. WHO statistics shows that since 2022, at least 99,176 cases and 208 fatalities from monkeypox have been documented from 116 countries. The emergence of a novel virus strain that can be spread through sexual contact appears to be concerning.
What is Monkeypox :
The orthopoxvirus that causes it is a self-limiting viral illness that manifests as fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a painful rash that blisters and then crusts over. Even while it is self-limiting, it can be fatal, particularly in young children and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms of Monkeypox Virus :

Though it can also be detected on the palm and sole of the foot, the rash is more common on the face. impacts the vaginal area, the cornea of the eye, the conjunctiva, and the mucous membrane of the mouth.
How is Monkeypox Virus Transmitted :
Close contact with a person who has the rash, such as face-to-face, skin-to-skin, mouth-to-mouth, or mouth-to-skin contact, including sexual contact, is how the monkeypox virus travels from person to person. Until all lesions have crusted over, scabs have fallen off, and a new layer of skin has grown underneath, a person is usually regarded as contagious.
