HMPV Virus Cases LIVE: Three cases of HMPV have been confirmed in India; nevertheless, health officials have repeatedly urged the public not to worry, stressing that the virus is not a novel disease and is similar to the common flu.
HMPV virus symptoms :
Flu-like symptoms such as coughing, fever, congestion of the nose, and dyspnea are brought on by HMPV. In more severe cases, it can cause pneumonia or bronchitis, particularly in immunocompromised people, the elderly, and young children.

Health officials have been stressing that there is no need to panic despite the fact that India has confirmed three cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV)—two in Karnataka and one in Gujarat. They also added that getting regular flu shots or even the three doses of the Covid vaccine makes one immune to this infection.

India verified its first three HMPV cases on Monday, with two occurring in Gujarat and one in Karnataka. Every case has been found in children. The two Karnataka instances were found during normal surveillance for many respiratory viral infections, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
After being admitted to Baptist Hospital of Bengaluru with bronchopneumonia, a three-month-old girl was later released after receiving a diagnosis of HMPV. Furthermore, on January 3, a male infant aged eight months who was also taken to Baptist Hospital due to bronchopneumonia tested positive for HMPV and is still recuperating. Notably, according to the ministry’s statement, neither of the infants had ever traveled abroad.
According to a PTI report, on December 24, a youngster from Rajasthan’s Dungarpur was brought to the private hospital in Ahmedabad’s Chandkheda neighborhood with signs of a respiratory infection. Bhavin Solanki, the in-charge medical officer of health for Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, was quoted by the news agency as saying that the newborn tested positive for the HMPV.
Since HMPV is not a novel infection and causes typical flu-like symptoms, medical professionals from hospitals and health organizations have been stressing that there is no need to fear. Although there isn’t a vaccination for it, scientists claim that receiving a flu shot on a regular basis and even the three doses of the Covid vaccine can protect against HMPV.
According to the government, incidents of respiratory infections linked to HMPV have been documented in a number of nations, and the virus is already in use throughout the world, notably in India.
